1534 > Jacques Cartier, the French explorer, landed in Canada, at Gaspé Bay in Quebec, and claimed it for France by placing a cross there.
1535 > Date (perhaps fictitious?) of " Expositio Fidelis de morte Thomae Mori ", a very influential account of the trial and death of (Fisher and) More. This unique first-hand document circulated over all Europe, giving evidence of More's phrase: " king's good servant, and God first"
